Through the Years and The Evolution of a Porch

Through the Years and The Evolution of a Porch

the porch before

I’m pausing just a moment on this busy Monday morning with an ode to my porch:

Through the years

You’ve never let me down

You’ve turned my life around

The sweetest days I’ve found, I’ve found with you

Through the years

No one sings it like Kenny.

And this is the beginning of the porch’s journey.  The before before.  Before the black and white and Christmas trees and magnolias and neutrals.

This is where it all started.

This is where it began.

How to Stain a Deck (the Easy Way)

How to Stain a Deck (the Easy Way)

how to stain a deck

We have stained and painted a lot of decks and porches around our house.

Like this one.

And this one.

It’s our permanent hobby along with power washing the siding and edging the lawn.

And every time we paint (and by we…I mean me and the mouse in my pocket) it’s a lot of bending and stretching and getting up to go to the paint bucket…

….and a lot of time.

Until now.Continue reading

Back to School Office Organization (and a Little Before and After)

Back to School Office Organization (and a Little Before and After)

This post was written in collaboration with Birch Lane.

In not-organization news I spent a not-productive Sunday watching an entire marathon of Flea Market Flip.

Have you ever seen that show?

It features two teams of two people who meet at a flea market and are given a certain amount of money and an hour and three categories of projects to create and they have to shop the market and buy loads of sad, neglected parts of this and that and turn it into something amazing.  Then then the next day they bring their treasures back to the market and try to sell them and whoever makes the most profit wins $5000.

I know all of this because I spent hours yesterday watching the show.

I couldn’t help it.

As soon as I saw the teams I would start rooting for one of them and when I saw what they bought I had to see what they turned it into and then I had to see who won.  And I kept thinking that this was going to be the last show and that any minute an episode of House Hunters was about to be on.

Good thing I got all organized before the whole Flip Market Flip debaucle.

And here’s how I did it.Continue reading

DIY Organization Ideas

In the back yard at the end of the winding sidewalk behind the white barn doors next to the rose bushes….

….is the workshop.

It’s the epicenter of all the projects on this blog.

The hub.

It’s where we create and build and paint and develop and construct.

I love this place.

But I’ve never really opened up the door and showed you behind those white barn doors…..

…..because I was worried that if you saw this.Continue reading

The Room That Started With Blue and White

The Room That Started With Blue and White

blue and white room

First of all, I never really said thank you for the wonderful response to the whole design consulting thing.

It was something I was never sure I was ready for.

Designing a room for someone else and trying to put yourself in their shoes and determine what they like can be a little tricky.  But I’ve had a little more practice and I love a good before and after and the process is so much fun that I was ready to jump into the deep end. I’m excited and I can’t wait to partner with everyone who e-mailed me.  So to get ready, I thought I’d start with a true design challenge.  Making over a room for someone with a little bit of a design opinion wrapped up with a smile and a lot of helpful suggestions.

My mother.  :)Continue reading

Before and After Bedroom Reveal

Before and After Bedroom Reveal

1-pallet wood organizer

It’s that time of year again.

National Painting Week with Sherwin-Williams.

The week of the year where they select a handful of bloggers to redesign a room and make it their own with a little paint and a lot of imagination.  This year, I completely transformed a room upstairs that you’ve never seen before.

I know.

I get it.

I’m as surprised as you that it has taken this room as long as it has to show up on the blog.

But I think a few stinky socks got in the way. :)Continue reading

Before and After At the Inn

Before and After At the Inn

Cynthia Weber design project6

I love a really good before and after.

Nothing better.

I could wrap myself up in them and head out on the town with a diet coke.

It’s what keeps me watching the Hallmark channel for hours on end and clicking on any link on Facebook that says something like, “you won’t BELIEVE what this house looks like now” and reading design magazine after design magazine.

And wait until you see the before and after I have for you today.

“You won’t BELIEVE what my friend Cynthia’s Inn looks like now”….to see it just click here.

PS  Thanks for the idea, Facebook. :)Continue reading

Before and After Beach House Bedroom

Before and After Beach House Bedroom

before and after wood wall

I finally finished the beach house bedroom.

And after every board was hung and every piece painted and every curtain sewed and hung and every pillow placed…..

….I took these pictures in the middle of a hurricane.

Hello, Arthur. :)

cape cod bedroom makeover

There’s so much more to the story….but before I begin….

….let take a trip back to remember where we started.

Before Arthur.

Before the winds and the rains and a gloomy horizon……when we started at the very beginning.

We arrived at the Cape two weeks ago to sunny weather and blue skies and a bedroom that looked like this.Continue reading
