Everyone always asks me what my favorite room in my house is.

Hmmm….that’s a hard one.

They are all my favorite….for different times and different places and different reasons.

But if I was going to a desert island and I could only choose one to go along for the ride…..

….the guest bedroom would have its day in the sun.

You can find it tucked away under the eaves of the attic…..at the end of the hallway….at the top of a narrow staircase.

It’s a room for dreaming.

It’s a room for sweet tea with lime.

It’s a room for inspiration and spring and sunshine and a good book…..

…..and a lazy afternoon.

Pink_Flowers

The room kind of decorated itself.

I found a fabric and fell in love and added in milk glass and fresh flowers and down pillows and gingham chairs….

…..and topped it off with a little joy.

If you love blue and white and milk glass and rooms that were made for sweet tea…..

….here’s how to get the look.

blue-and-white-inspiration

I created a collection on ebay that is full of extra blue and white inspiration.

I found ideas from the room to recreate the look and some new fun finds that I plan on adding soon.

I love the blue and white striped fabric which is the perfect compliment to the blue and white polka dot at the end of the bed.

And the crest pillow?

Seriously.

Wouldn’t that look perfect tucked next to the pillows on the gingham chair?

Here’s a milk glass vase almost exactly like the one on the side table.  It makes the $5 bouquet of flowers from the grocery store look like a custom arrangement.

I added a blue and white striped bag on the wall hanging from a hook and hung shutters in a pattern on the blank wall.

It’s an easy and inexpensive way to create functional wall art.

Can you see why it’s my favorite?

Truly.

Every glorious blue and white detail of it.

It’s a winner and it would never get voted off the island….

….you can bet your sweet tea on it. :)

  1. If you invited me for a stay, I may declare squatter’s rights and never leave :-) The room is beautiful. It reminds me of the sea and I love anything to do with the sea. I am always drawn to bodies of water, perhaps it is because of where I was born. I love your room and I’m off to see your collection. Have a wonderful day. Big Hugs!!

  2. This may be the first time in my entire life, that I at 6:00am, I find myself wishing with all my heart, that a guest room is exactly where I wish to me, and if it looked like yours, I probably would stay for a long time. What a lovely way to say “welcome” to family and friends! You are so gifted!

  3. Ruth Ann Anderson :

Room is so inviting…where’s the book ?
At first I thought the shutter display was wallpaper..WOW you have been collecting them for a while…gives a sea side feeling..AND conceals the grate a little ..

  6. KariAnne, I am totally, totally, totally in love with your shutter wall!!! And I envie you so! We don’t use shutters in my country, but shabby chic shutters have become an “in” item that we import from France and Italy. Imagine, how that affects the price…!

  7. Like everything you post KariAnne…inviting, beautiful and inspirational, just like you! Are you taking reservations for the guest room?

  8. I never get tired of looking at that room. In fact, I were going to a dessert island, I would request to bring your room with me! Now I am off to check out the collection!

  15. Being a fan of blue and white, I adore this room. The shutters on the wall are pure genius! I remember reading somewhere that if you are using different patterns, it is important to keep them all in the same color scheme. Your guest room is a great example of how that works.

I hereby dub your guest room “The Bonnie Blue Room! Pure charm, but I’d expect nothing less from you…you are southern charm personified, Karianne! I can picture a picnic in this room, on a blue and white quilt spread on the floor, the sunshine dappling the walls and the breeze blowing in through the open windows, with pink lemonade and pretty pink frosted cookies, and….oh, sorry….it’s just that this room sets you to dreaming!

  29. Your whole house is my very favorite house in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD!!!!! But girl I gotta tell ya, the day l saw your guest room, I think my heart skipped a few beats, it is just perfect, and I want to come visit you, but if

  37. Sandra Ciaburri :

Your blue and white room is beautiful. I started mine last year. I’m missing the curtains and I just love yours. Where can I get them or the fabric?
    Thank you.
    Sandy

    • I second this — that fabric is exactly what I’ve been dreaming of for in my navy blue dining room. Thank you!

      • Found it! Have been looking for this for months! It’s called ‘Chloe’ and it’s from a company called Titley and Marr. Lovely fabric, but certainly hard to find in the US and none too cheap.

  38. Sheryll & Critters. :

I am with you….. it sure is difficult to have to pick a favorite room in your gorgeous house. I have to admit to loving the blue and white one also. I am big time in love with blue and white bedrooms. I am trying to do mine with a soft blue and white……. but it is very slow going. Times like this, I wish I could blink my eyes and make it ‘just be’.

  39. I would love to know the name of that fabric used for the drapes and where you found it. That is what I’m looking for for my living room. The room is beautiful!
