Have You Started Decorating Yet?

Have you put up your Christmas tree yet?

Not me.

Not even close.

I’m still trying to make it through Thanksgiving and figuring out how to cook a turkey.

And I’m waiting for it to snow next week…..

….and feeling a little behind.

Dining_Room_Thistlewood

Everywhere I look….people are decorating with their trees and garlands and lights and pinecones and glitter.

And I’m staring at pumpkins and hay stacks. :)

I do know the colors I’m using to decorate….though.

I’ve known since last year.

All these silver and white decorations will be joined by the 90% off clearance rack of gold ornaments from 2012.

Christmas 2013 never looked so bright. :)

PS  If you want a little more silver and gold decorating….check out all the inspiration today on my Lamp’s Plus post.

  1. Can’t wait to see…..I know it will be gorgeous as usual…!!!!! :-)

  2. Stephanie Cchristian :

I really admire your decorating, everything is so beautiful and well placed. It is a great inspiration. Thank you.

  3. We have not started yet. I have a door frame to paint in the living room near where our tree will go. So, the goal is the weekend after Thanksgiving to clean the house and put up the holidays. I can’t wait to see your ideas!

  4. We having Thanksgiving at my MIL’s, so I’m going to start the Christmas decorating this weekend — can’t wait!
    xo heidi

  5. December first. Trying to hold off until December first. Trying… :)

  6. I too am waiting for the snow! Can’t come soon enough for me :) We usually spend the first weekend of December getting the house dressed for the holidays. Do have the outside lights up though, thanks to an usually warm weekend up here in Canada!

  7. I always read your posts first. Love the white look . I should go all white to hide the dog hair :) Thanksgiving is too special to rush through for the artificial glitter of Christmas. One of the things on my growing list of thankful fors is your blog.

  8. So pretty! x

  9. This sounds lovely with the addition of the gold ornaments. I have finished decorating the inside! Woo hoo! I don’t have family at Thanksgiving this year, so I started really early. I can’t wait to see your holiday home! It’s always so pretty!

  10. Don’t you LOVE 90% off clearance! Isn’t it crazy when something says $15.00 and it rings up $1.50?!!! It’s like the register is saying, “Merry Christmas!”

  11. I have not started to decorate for chrismas yet. I am having a baby shower this weekend, so right after that i will put up the Christmas. Your home is beautiful. How do you stay so organized?

  12. Can’t wait to see what you do, and please please add some red and green and pink and purple and blue….some COLOR!! All OVER the place! I so very much want to print out color pictures this year, but so many bloggers, with otherwise colorful personalities, have settled into their versions of all white/grey rooms with white/grey furniture all over their entire houses now, that the pics are pointless to print out in color. White if it’s snowing, or it’s hobnail, otherwise wrap it in Christmas color from ‘beam to board’ to match your personality! Don’t hide it — please flaunt it!! If anyone CAN pull off a magical colorful Christmas, it’s YOU!

  13. KariAnne,
I love silver and gold. I can not wait to see all your beautful decorations! I did decorate one mantel and I’m working on a white table tree for one of our windows. So much more to do. About the turkey it’s so easy- Stuff and roast! Another year you can experiment with brining. But seriously I stuff ours with my Mother’s recipe for sausage stuffing that we all fight over and just place in the oven til the legs wiggle. ha!

  14. I will be decking the halls later this week, after I get a paint project finished. We have Thanksgiving at my mothers home, so early decorating is okay here. Saving the outside until after turkey day! Hey, 90% off…my kinda gal!

    Blessings,
    Linda

  15. While the world is shopping on Black Friday…you will find me at home, blissfully decorating! And, all weekend, for that matter. As far as my colors…the same I’ve used for the last decade or so. I’m rather traditional in that regard, might try something new, but probably not! I’ll leave that to all you bloggers! ;)

  16. Oh, Karianne, we’re all eager to see how you decorate! Off to read your post at Lamps Plus. (I ordered my new living room lamps from them, by the way–what a great company!)

By the way, if you’d like to see a tried-and-true method for cooking turkey, you can read my post about it here: http://www.impartinggrace.com/2011/11/talking-turkey.html. This works for us every time! :)

  17. Karianne,
I know it will be gorgeous. I cannot wait to see your decorating for this year.
    Kris

  18. No.
Color….think I’m doing natural this year as in butcher paper and pinecones.
Turkey; two, 20 lbs each on the grill wholly in the hands of my husband. I can forget I ever knew how to cook them.

  19. Nan, Odessa DE :

Tell us about the banner in white in the cabinet display!
    We are waiting to seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  20. I really don’t like decorating before Thanksgiving. I “get it” when people put up their outdoor lights, especially those of us who live in northern climates, while the weather is still good–but it just feels like jumping the gun to me when it starts too early. Thanksgiving is such a special time of the year and I like to fully enjoy it without jumping ahead to the next big thing. That being said, your decorations are beautiful.

  21. I’m still enjoying the pumpkins and indian corn, too . . . but I’m thinking about it! I’ve been pinning like crazy, trying to get some new ideas. We usually put everything up the Saturday after Thanksgiving, while everyone is home! I love silver and gold – makes me think of the song on “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” . . . . :) Happy planning! It definitely FEELS like Christmas today! LOL

  22. Sept is too hot and summer-like to decorate for autumn here. Oct gets its pumpkins/Halloween and November is Thanksgiving to us and me………….Christmas is all of December and stays up sometimes all the way to Epiphany, unless a burst of energy hits me. Each month gets its due…so absolutely NOT, it is too early for Christmas decorating for me!!!

Loving your white and silver- very promising!! Hugs!

  23. I know it will be beautiful!! and I am voting for your great Farmhouse room over at Lazyboy…..hope it wins!! Just breath, and you will catch up to yourself!!

  24. Karianne, I am so relieved to read your post today!! I have a Thanksgiving table, a Christmas Mantel and some straggling Halloween outside. I thought it was just me that was behind when everyone was putting up their last ornaments on their trees…..lol. Your home is gorgeous and also can’t wait to see what you have in store for us. Have a wonderful day xo Lisa

  25. THANK YOU for not decorating yet! I was so depressed this year when I saw my grocery store decorating for Christmas BEFORE Halloween! I LOVE Thanksgiving – I want to decorate and savor this holiday . . . .and the tree and decorations won’t go up until a few days after Thanksgiving. It’s time to bring back Thanksgiving as it’s own holiday! Happy Thanksgiving to you!

  26. I plan to hold out until the day after Thanksgiving! Is it just me, or does it seem like everyone is way ahead of schedule this year? What’s the rush? Slow down and breathe a little my friends. It will be here and gone before you know it.

  27. Hope to start this weekend since Thanksgiving is so late this year. xo Laura

  28. Thanksgiving FIRST !!!

  29. While I love getting together with family for a good meal on Thanksgiving, I can honestly say I am sick of pumpkins and cant wait to give them the old heave-ho. However, I will use restraint and hold off on putting any Christmas décor up until after Thanksgiving. I did buy ribbon last week (silver and burlap) and have started making bows for my swag wreaths and garland. I found some great antlers this past summer and cant wait to use them in my decorating. I know I will gets lots of other great ideas and inspiration from you Karianne!!

  30. Sheryll & Critters. :

Not me, not even thinking about decorating for anything but Thanksgiving till AFTER Thanksgiving. I usually ‘try’ to start December 01, but oh well.

I love all your white and silver and oh black and gold too is just great. I want to do just blue, but not sure I can even put a tree up again this year….. the kitty kats…… oh my.

  31. Too thankful for my blessings to give My pumpkins and pilgrims up before Thanksgiving.
Can’t wait to see your decorations for Christmas. “Silver and Gold” Christmas song describes you. If you aren’t familiar with it please look it up. My 3 sisters and I always sang it to my parents every Christmas (along with “I heard the bells on Christmas Day “. – 4 verses so we could all be solo stars:).

  32. Since you asked…. no, I haven’t even put up LAST year’s decorations yet!

  33. We did out up a tree last week. But it is tucked away in our guest room upstairs. So I can close the door and not see it or I can open it turn on the twinkly lights and get all excited. I actually had to talk the hubs into having 2 tress this year. The kids were like, “Let’s have 5!” Um, 2 it is.

    Happy Tuesday!
    Trina

  34. I started this week, but really haven’t gotten very far…going with more muted colors this year…and gold is good!!!

  35. Sounds like maybe some primary colors are going to find their home at Thistlewood this year?

I will live vicariously through you as I’m not doing much decorating at either abode.

Love your white displays Karianne! So fresh looking!

  36. My dining room screams Thanksgiving, and my living room says bring on Santa! We are enjoying the best of both holidays right now. =)

Looking forward to seeing all of your lovely decorations!
    Jen
