How to Get the Look: Colorful Christmas Decorating

Have you finished your Christmas decorating yet?

Ummm….not me.

Not even close.

In Kentucky….the snow storm has ended…

….but the Christmas decorating has just begun.

I’m trying to hurry.

It’s 11 days and counting until Santa and his elves pull a sleigh full of Christmas cheer and land on the rooftops.

Last week the laundry room in all it’s red and white and black made it’s debut on the blog with a bold polka dot splash.

(total aside:  don’t you think a little polka dot makes everything a little more festive)

So in case you’re just like me and your halls are waiting to be decked….and you like a little polka dot, too…..

….I put together a few collections here and here on ebay for inspiration.

Just between us…..I love decorating with presents.

The papers are so pretty and the ribbons are so colorful.

And the best part… don’t have to store the decorations for next year…..

….you just give them away.

One fun idea I used for decorating this year was chalkboard tags!  I put together a collection called “Chalk It Up” on ebay that features all the different ideas for chalkboard tags.

There are scalloped and round and there’s even chalkboard contact paper to make your own.

I also put together an inspiration collection of wrapping paper, too.

I tried to find pink and white polka dotted wrapping paper…..and I looked everywhere without success…..until I found it on ebay.

And there’s black and white damask and turquoise chevron and candy cane paper.  Now each room can have it’s own paper and ribbon.

It’s such an easy and inexpensive way to change it up.

No stress…..but it’s 11 days and counting.

Christmas is almost here.

So may your days be merry and bright…..

…..and your decorating quickly “wrapped up”. :)

  1. I love color, especially at Christmastime! :)

You’ve just given me a great idea. I’ve used wrapped gifts as decorations before–but they were faux presents. What a great idea to use REAL gifts, wrap them prettily, and let them serve as decor until time to give them away! That’s so simple, but it’s genius! :)

You’re a rock star, you know.

  2. I love polka dots. One of my co-workers has an aversion to them, and we tell her that it’s her only defect as a human. :) Love the presents! Some years I’m slow to get my presents wrapped and under the tree, but this year, with the snowstorm, I actually got them all wrapped and pretty, and I’d forgotten just how much prettier it looks WITH presents than WITHOUT!

And you ARE a rock star. for real. <3 :)

  3. Karianne,
I love polka dots and stripes! Everything looks so pretty and bright – Great job!

  4. Would never ever thought of b&w for Christmas decor, Karianne … tho you did a lovely job presenting it.

  5. Dear girl. I love your writing and the next thing I say is in no way meant to be negative. When I look at blogs it seems I am looking through a microscope to view all your wonderful things. Perhaps I am a big picture person and need to see the whole thing. Yes, that’s it, I am a global thinker and like to see see the big picture. At the next meeting of your blog friends will you bring this up with them? You all do it much to my consternation. Please include at least one picture that shows the whole thing. Now back to my microscope! I have to piece together how the mantel is put together. Merry Christmas to you and yours. (: I truly love you. (:

  6. I am addicted to your site. I live in Graham NC and if I lived near you we would be best friends even though I am probably twice your age. Is there anyway you can make money having a blog.? I no longer can live on social security and I have got to find something where I can make a little money each month. I am not real computer savy but I definitely am willing to learn. I am a interior designer but work these days are so few and far between. I will be 66 Jan 12th but I am making it the new 40. I would love to share some of the things that I have done with you. I only know how to sent photos via email. I feel like I really know you. How old are your twins now? I would love to tell you more about me but not on a public post. Can you email me. Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your wonderful life. Connie

  9. LOVE all the black & white with the red! Everything you’ve created is just stunning! My computer is out so I’m using the business center when I can. So much Christmas decor to see and having a difficult time doing so. I’m so glad you’ve shared so many gorgeous touches!

Did you find the alphabet paper on ebay too?
