If I Were an Ornament….

If I Were an Ornament….

finding-home-Christmas

If I were an ornament….

….I’d want to be on Laura’s tree.

Yep.

Right next to reindeer cow with the black and white striped collar.

(please take a moment to digest that sentence)

Have you wrapped your head around reindeer cow yet?

I’d perch up there in the evergreens amongst the chalkboard ornaments and the sharpie ornaments and random red ornaments that kind of look like tops I used to play with in second grade…..

….and I’d never leave.

Maybe it’s because I adore Laura.

Maybe it’s because I talk to her every day on the phone.

Maybe it’s because when I’m with her….I laugh until I snort…and that makes me laugh even harder.

Maybe it’s because she’s a planner and an organizer and detail-orienter and so many more things I’m not….or ever will be.

Maybe it’s because when I call her and tell her….“Can I be all about myself today and tell you something amazing”…..

….she always says yes. :)

She is the friend of my heart.

Right out of the pages of a Hallmark movie.

She’s funny and kind and generous and wonderful and discerning and wise and silly…..and listens to all my stories.

every. single. one….

….and sometimes twice.

And when I write a blog post that I love….like when I lugged a roast to garden club or brought my table to town or wore Lee Press-On-Nails to a boot camp graduation…I like to call people and read the post to them over the phone…..

….with great emphasis and laughter and character voices.

Please tell me you’re not surprised.

I know it’s random.

I know it’s way over-the-top.

But Laura always listens. :)

I only posted a few pictures of her beautiful home…..so to truly be inspired…be sure to visit the rest of the tour and tell her I said hi….here.

She doesn’t know I’m writing this…..

….but just I had to.

Because…you see….I think Christmas is a time of year for celebration and joy and wonder and a time to let those around you who are so important in this journey we call life….

….know how truly special they are.

Merry Merry Christmas my friend.

Or should I say….rock star. :)

PS  Take a moment today from this busy holiday season to let someone special to you…..know it.

  1. What a sweet tribute to a wonderful friend. I LOVE Laura’s reindeer cow…..keep wanting to make one. Your blog and Laura’s are favorites of mine. If she is ever too busy to listen to your stories, call me! I love to laugh until I snort!

  2. Hi KariAnne,

I wanted to let you know that I thought that was such a nice post about Laura. She was the first blogger I started following last year (Yip I’m late in the game I know) but when I first stumbled on her home on Pinterest I was hooked. Her home shouted me but I just never knew how to put it together. Then along the way I found your blog :) It’s so fun to read your posts, you are such a fun person who always brings a smile to my face. It’s interesting how total strangers can make such impacts! So on this holiday season I wanted to take this moment to wish you a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Looking forward to another year of smiles :) And PS, I love your home as well ;)

  3. What would we do without besties to tell our stories to? I know I’d just shrivel up and die, because a good story just deflates without an appreciative audience. My best audience will be moving to PA shortly. I’m totally in denial. We’re just carrying on as if neither of us has any idea that this is coming. But I have to admit, I have been looking for new audiences as well. It never hurts to tell the really good stories to different people.

Have a jolly day, cute lady. I hope your latte is nice and caramelly today.

  4. I am definitely stopping by Laura’s house and telling her hello but first of all I want to tell you that I think you are a good and loyal friend. In fact I told you yesterday about an idea of mine. Well, I woke up in the middle of the night and kept expanding on it. BUT! What was funny was I gave the concept quite an irreverent name and I thought of you and how you would LOL at the whole naming of it. I was laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes and The Mr slept right through it. I am glad I found you because you do bring smiles and laughter into my life. Big Hugs !!

  5. KariAnne,
First, I have to say I loved that you surprised your friend. Boy, if I were to ever stsrt a blog, business, adventure I would want you in my corner because know I would succeed. I don’t have a friend I can say that about. You are a gem in the way that really matters in life. Act without reward…..

Second, funny coinqidink….I pinned your living room months ago not realizing you had a blog. Then I found your room design for the lazyboy challenge ( I think that was the co.) And it was all over, I was hooked! Shocked to realize, “oh thats who thst room belongs to”. Aside from your design, I love your simple, to-the point, witty, laid out like a picture book, story telling ability.

Have a blest and magical Christmas,

  8. I remember meeting Laura at Haven earlier this year. Beautiful friendship tribute and she has a lovely home too.

Of course, I would love to be an ornament in your holiday home, Karianne (smile).

    Happy holidays!

    Lisa

  9. Love that Laura. Great tribute to a wonderful friend. :) and love Linda and her beautiful home as well.

    Heather

  10. Lovely tribute! I do love reindeer cows, not for what they are, but for what they represent…true imagination! Rock on Karianne…and Merry Christmas! ;)

  11. Oh what a wonderful Christmas surprise you’ve given Laura, but I am really just savoring the part about you reading out loud one of your posts with character voice and all. THAT.I.LOVE!! :)

  12. I have a reindeer cow on my tree, but it isn’t nearly as elegant as your friend Laura’s (can a reindeer cow be elegant? Yes, I think it can!). You’re a fun friend.

  13. so. sweet.

  14. Kari – you have accomplished something many have tried but few have accomplished.

    You have left me speechless.

You know the way to my heart, and you know how much I love taking the time to let people know what they mean to you – and here you go and do that for me. And during a time when I needed it so. It is indeed, “The Greatest Gift”.

Every morning, I get out of bed way later than I should and shuffle my way to my coffee maker. While the coffee brews, I sit on the stool I have tucked against the way and sleepily open my emails. That is where I always see your post first – of course, unless you have read it to me the day before. I was intrigued by your post title this morning, and dumbfounded when I opened it and saw my cowdeer.

Thank you friend. Thank you for showing me such kindness during a holiday season with a few bumps in the road. Thank you for your daily friendship. Thank you for inspiration daily.

You have changed blogging for me – to have someone who I can call and share my crazy ideas with – to hear your daily creativity – to have a touch point that understands what I do daily, is priceless. Thank you for being the other half of our synergy – we make quite a team!

I will call you later and I will be sure to tell you how amazing you are. But be prepared – I am a bit emotional after all this!

    Love you friend,
    Laura

  15. Awwwww this is the sweetest post, ever! I love Laura, and YOU, and SO many of my blogging friends. I wish you all the BEST Christmas in the whole wide world!

  16. from the moment i met you two at The Chapel i couldn’t help to be drawn into the positive energy you both radiate. you two are like peas & carrots, you go hand and hand. it was so fun to watch you both work together, and watch you transform a bunch of goods just grabbed on the go into a beautiful booth. you two booth have inspired me to want to continue my journey of living the dream as well as take a stab at the Blog world in 2014. you are a blessing to those who read and the biggest blessing was to see that you are truly the ladies represented in your blog. Merry Christmas to two of my fav Rockstars!!

  17. I also have a heart friend! and they are the very best ! Off to visit her blog now as well. I was inspired by your “Industrial Farmhouse” vibe that you put out there on your LaZyboy challenge ( still voting by the way) ……my hubby Darrell made the side table that I had him lug up to the living room ….it just finished off my little corner, and I was so pleased to tell him about the new buzz world “INDUSTRIAL FARMHOUSE”! I think he likes it!!!!

  18. This is so sweet, Karianne…I’m heading over for a visit! Merry Christmas!

  19. I had to read the phrase “reindeer cow” 2x and scroll up to the picture again to double check my eyes were not deceiving me. How exciting that they were not! “I love reindeer cow” smooches for “reindeer cow”, however now I feel bad he doesn’t have a real moniker. Is that weird? Do I need to start a petition to name him? :)

  20. This touched my heart. I love Laura’s home (as well as yours!) and it makes me feel so warm to see you’ve both found such a wonderful friend within each other. That’s what life is all about. :)

  21. Hi Karianne, Thanks for sharing the “Laura Love”! I sure enjoy both your blogs and you are both such sweethearts too. Glad you are such fast friends. Happy Holidays!

  22. You are the best, KariAnne! I’ve never seen a cow-reindeer, but now I want one desperately. It combines my love of cows and all things farm-y with my love of Christmas!!! Headed over to Laura’s blog, now!!!! Merry, Merry Christmas – one week to go!! Whoo-hoo!!! :)

  23. You are blessed to have such a friend and apparently you know it!
    Take care of this friendship.
    Thanks for sharing with us!

  24. I LOVE Finding Home, she is so inspiring! So jealous that I don’t have a friend like that. I’m so happy for you.

  25. How sweet. You are both so lucky to have a each other! Merry Christmas to both of you wonderful and inspiring women!

  26. Too sweet! I adore you AND Laura. You may not know it, but you are both MY “imaginary internet friends” as my family calls it. We sit on the porch and chat over sweet tea in the summer or cream with a little coffee in it in the winter. We laugh together over our silly selves, make somethings out of nothings, talk about our sweet babies and understanding hubbies, and wear red lipstick while painting furniture in our pajamas in the garage. :) You make me smile…every time.

  27. Thanks Kari for your kind words and for sharing the link to my holiday house tour. I’m honored.

    Linda

  28. How lovely!

  29. I don’t think I have ever seen a reindeer cow, although I do have to say it is a nice looking reindeer cow, in fact the whole house looks bloody great

  30. ahhh, your post and Laura’s reply…so sweet. Laura said “daily friendship” and it struck a cord with me. We should all strive to be friends daily, not just when it suits us or we need some one or when we have time and not too busy…. thanks for the reminder.

  31. What a precious gift! Oh, to have such a heart friend. It’s what I’ve always prayed for with my children, that they would know the love of that special someone who knows you without a word. I think that is so hard to find the older I get and the new seasons of life I walk through. You are such an encourager to others, and I know Laura was blessed by your post. You, my friend, are the rock star!

  32. What a beautiful post, KariAnne! I also read Laura’s reply! So touching. Everyone should have a friendship like your! It would save tens of thousands of $$ in therapy bills! Beautiful homes… both of you! Beautiful people! xo

  33. Laura and Linda…two wonderful people…I so remember when you posted long ago about Linda’s painted “porch rug”..I was amazed with her talent…and Laura, what a talent too…she always comes up with the most creative designs…both have a heart of gold!!…and you made me laugh again when you mentioned the roast/garden club story…and how about when you painted the dining room hutch on your way out to the book club!..
    Merry Christmas KariAnne!!!

  34. How blessed you are to have such a friend and to feel the joy of celebrating all that is unique and special about her. Inspiring.

  35. What a nice post about your friend. I have seen the tour of her home and it’s beautiful! I didn’t realize you were good friends. Merry Christmas KariAnne and thanks for supporting and inspiring me! You truly are a rock star!
