You’re My One and Only

Why do you think that people count the Christmas trees in their homes?

Really.

If you haven’t noticed, the number of Christmas trees in a person’s home is definitely a hot topic of conversation on the party circuit this year.

All over America right now at Christmas parties, people are asking that all-important question…..”How many Christmas trees did you put up this year?”

Why?

“Why?” is the question I want to ask when they ask me.

When Santa’s checking his list does he say, “Well….they haven’t really been that good this year, but they do have 18 trees.   So load ‘em up.”

I think to myself, sometimes it’s not the number, but the simplicity of one.

One extra-special tree that glitters and glistens and signifies all of the wonder and joy of the Christmas season.

One special tree with glittered birds and tiny nests and mirrored snowflakes.

If I were stranded on a desert island and I could only take one tree along for my desert island stay, it would be this one.

And I would contentedly lay on a sandy beach and gaze up into its glittered branches.

So the next time you are at a Christmas party and you are asked that age old question about your Christmas trees.

Just smile to yourself and say, “I have one….

….and it’s spectacular!:)

  1. That is a beautiful fluffy white tree! I love how you decorated it too. You always have the prettiest pictures. I do only have one tree and don’t feel like that is having less than I should. I think having more than one tree in a house is a newer generational thing than when I grew up. It’s up to the individual how many they want to have and usually has to do with their love to decorate them and their ability to make room for them.

  2. I agree! It’s not the number, but the thought you put into what you have. I’ve seen some incredible single trees, tiny trees, beautifully simple trees, trees created from scraps, and I love them all. You can tell they were decorated with love.

  3. And you have one amazing tree. I was just telling the hubs that I want to get a white tree – will have to hit the after Christmas sales! LOVE the trunk underneath too.

  4. Hi Kari,

We have the one tree too! It is full of memories and the girls handmade ornaments…
I do like your white one though, very pretty!
    All the Best,
    Christine

  5. I only have one tree, but if I were left on an island…I think I’d want your tree. Its beautiful. Have a great week!

  6. Gracious-me-oh-my-oh-mercy, I am so glad I found your blog!!! You are an artist, with words and with photos, my Dear. An Artist.

But not of the rarified kind… Not of the kind-of-un-touchable kind.

You are an Artist of “Pretty Blog Land” and you are warm and sweet and welcoming too. Best kind, so “Auntie” sezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. :-)

    Gentle Christmas hugs,

  7. I’ve never been asked this question. And, though I have had as many as three trees in the house in former times, now I have just one and have no intention of ever putting up more. I’m definitely growing old. =)

  8. Kari, it is indeed enchanting. I smiled when I saw you posted this pretty white tree. I told my husband this weekend that I would like a small white tree for my home office/studio.

    Love it!

  9. From your newest follower~

I second all the above comments. Your tree is tastefully spectacular :) I love your unique style. One cannot help but feel joyful surrounded by your Christmas splendor.

I am glad you found my blog because now I’ve found yours.

    Blessings, Dana

  10. What a beautiful tree and you are so right, one spectacular one says the same thing as 20! (Love the Seinfiled reference, one of my favorite episodes…”they are real and they are spectacular”). Your home and blog are beautiful. I’m glad you took the plunge into blogland. Patty

  11. When I put up my xmas tree post, so many responders recommended that I get more than one tree so that I could include a “themed” one … my little city house is under 2,000 square feet. It would quickly look like a xmas tree forest!

  12. I haven’t figured out yet when people started putting up more than THE one tree.
Seems it went from ONE tree to MANY trees overnight. We have always just had the one decorated little tree and a tiny fiber optic tree for the dining room.

I adore your beautiful white tree. I have to admit that I want a Kitchen tree next year..white with little cupcake ornaments…a few peppermints…gingerbread boys…

  13. One is enough. It glows in uniqueness. I’ve never seen the point of having more. Yours is beautiful.

  14. Your one gorgeous tree is all you need, it’s fabulous!!!!
Thank you for your nice visit, love your blog!
    Merry Christmas!

  15. Beautiful tree! I’d love to see the scenario in which you’re stranded on a desert island and forced to choose a christmas tree to bring with you.

  16. Oh my gosh that tree is perfect. I love it!

  17. Okay, I have to confess, that I have three inside and one on the porch. Maybe I need an intervention. I absolutely love your tree and I’m sure I could find the perfect spot for it in my home. Uh oh!!

  18. You are so funny! You always have such a great sense of humor in your stories! I had one less tree this year; I’m slipping (getting old)! All of your trees are lovely, just like your blog! It makes me happy to stop by! Thanks for sharing your talent and charm! I would like to take any of your trees to an island and my hormones, of course! Did I say that? Oops! Merry Christmas!

  19. Well, if they asked me, I would have to say, um…well…I don’t have one. You see my house is just too small for what I want, so I don’t have one at all. I want one like yours, tall and pretty, with lots of lights and the branches stretched out wide, showing off all of it’s glitz and glamour. So instead, I have one on my front porch, it only has a star on the top, nothing to glamorize it’s branches and it stands about two feet tall. But it does have lights on it. Actually, I am going to look for a tall slim one after Christmas this year and IF I find one, I will show it off next year!
Your tree is gorgeous!!! I love the way you have decorated it!
    Have another wonderful day tomorrow!
    Hugs, Cindy

  20. Such a cute post… and it is a mighty fine tree! I have been hearing the same thing about how many trees…. maybe we have too much STUFF?

I would keep my artificial tree…mostly because I bought it when I was single and it has a memory for me! And it has served me well all these years!

  21. OH yes, and have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!

  22. I have only one tree. That’s enough for me! Your white tree is spectacular and I love the gold. Merry Christmas!

  23. yep, i only have 1 tree…who knew that would be an oddity these days…
your tree is so pretty, i love the typography garland on it!

  24. I love your tree and yes, it is spectacular. What a fun post…

    Nice visiting with you.

I don’t even celebrate Christmas and I feel all warm and misty inside after seeing it :) Thanks for stopping by my blog as well, I really appreciated your kind comments! Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday :)

  28. So very true, one special tree… what ever it is that makes it special is all that is needed. Mine is full of memories that we have so much fun refreshing those memories when we decorate it. I do like that white tree of yours and the wonderful decorations!

  29. LOVE your snowy white tree and all the trims, so dreamy and beautiful…
    Happy New Year!

  30. I especially like the contrast of the bright white shiny glitzy glamy bedazzled Hollywood Marilyn Monroe-ish beautiful little tree set on top of the old antique wooden trunk. Love that look in contrasts!

  31. Your “one and only” is beautiful. I love the white with the silver. I’m guilty…multiple trees, here. xo
