Put Down the Hee Haw Megaphone

Put Down the Hee Haw Megaphone

I told you.

I told you these would be my ticket to fame and fortune.

Dust bunnies.

They have taken me from the dusty floors of an old farmhouse to the big wide world of broadcasting.

Podcasts.

It’s where all the cool dust bunny moguls are at these days.

And Kelly and I are no exception.

We have spent entirely too much time laughing and talking and creating and writing and painting and not cleaning or dusting or vacuuming or washing or wiping.  And all the while our dust bunny empire has been growing at a rapid pace.  Multiplying and forming unions and voting blocks and non-collective bargaining agreements.

So rather than fight the growing onslaught of our dust bunny proteges….

…..we decided, instead, to embrace them and create “A Dust Bunny Life.”

It’s a little podcast that we put together featuring Amy from The Salvage Collection.

The Salvage Collection

Amy is incredible and wonderful and witty and insightful.

Exactly what you want in your first podcast guest.

She talks to her furniture and creates subway art and plans out her new kitchen and creates and laughs and generally inspires me every day.

And she took a few minutes out of her life to discuss everything and anything….from the random and the sublime….with Kelly and I…..for our first ever edition of “A Dust Bunny Life.”

A few show notes to be aware of before you listen:

(1)  Could I be any louder on this podcast?   Seriously.  I sound like I am on the set of Hee Haw….holding a megaphone.

Note to self:  work on southern accent.

(2)  Could I use the word “incredible” any more times?

Note to self:  branch out…. invest in a really good thesaurus.

(3)  Could I be more of an over-laugher?  Really.  The pod-cast is just me laughing.  At Kelly.  Except you can’t really hear Kelly because I am holding my Hee Haw megaphone and guffawing.

Note to self:  Hand Kelly the megaphone for the next podcast.

(4)  I know 20 minutes is a long time.  We were planning on five.  The guffawing put us over.

We’ll be better at time management next time.

I promise.

And now…..with great fanfare and a little Hee Haw megaphone solo…..

Introducing the newest podcast to hit the airways:

 ”A Dust Bunny Life”

  1. Too cute! I actually had PURPLE Hee Haw overalls that I had to wear when I was a child! My cousin had a matching pair. Thank you for bringing the Hee Haw memories back LOUD and CLEAR. ; ) Good job and so creative! Love, Me http://www.youaretalkingtoomuch.com

  2. look at you guys getting all fancy !! love it!

  3. Incredible!!! See, you have taught me to embrace incredible and quotation marks. Really, Karianne. This was so much fun to listen to as I got ready for work. I am now running late, but this was so worth it. I’ll be smiling – and thinking of Kijsa’s Strawberry Bread – all day.

  4. Love, Love! You girls are hilarious and I felt like I was right there with ya! Funniest line though? “So really, you’re not reading my posts that closely.” I was guffawing too! ~Lori

  5. Who knew you could be such podcast moguls. Hee Haw has nothing on you girls. :)

  6. Oh, and I forgot to say how incredibly Kentucky you sound. seems pretty normal to me.

  7. I have to wait to listen as my husband is still sleeping at this early 5:07 a.m. hour and I can’t find my headphones. I am already smiling because I know it’s going to be funny. I have a bunny farm over here at my house.
One of my fav’ movie lines is from Sliding Doors, the man says “repetition of expecting. I must buy a thesaurus”, gets me every time :)

  8. Yes, Thistle, read the WORDS on the blog…. especially Amy’s, b/c that girl is a Flippin’ Wordsmith…

OH MY LORD HAVE MERCY TAKE ME HOME AND PUT ME IN THE CORNER AND EAT DESSERT IN FRONT OF ME….

You beat me at every turn. You are a woman of action. You take life by the dang horns and toss it around like a bleedin’ sack of potatoes.

So, my friend, hearing my own in your voice… do you wave your arms around like a helicopter as I do? It must be a Southern thang. Seriously…you sound like my sisters…

  9. INCREDIBLE!!!…I LOVED IT!!!!…I hope you make this a series…I truly love hearing the “true life” stories of bloggers and how they started and their everyday lives….I keep hearing the same thing over and over with bloggers who are successful as the three of you….Be true to yourself….follow your own path…

So Kari…rush out to the thrift shop….find that perfect straw hat…because you have definitely re-defined Minnie Pearl…Hee Haw!!! But instead of the hanging price tag…just hang a garland of dust bunnies!!!

  10. That Apartment Therapy DRIVES ME NUTS, too… Such total haters…they can not like someone’s design or implementation of vision, but there is a considerate way to disagree, yo.

Use some manners and have some class…

  11. Very cute podcast girls!~

  12. I’m running to the all night megaphone store right now – gotta be heard over all that guffawing, giggling and snorting!
    Kelly

  13. Amy’s right about the voice thing… She was there when I found mine… It’s hard to let your real self show through, and it takes time to find that voice

DO YOUR OWN THING… I stopped trying to post every day…or every other day… it’s too overwhelming!!!

I’m spoiled by yall, too… Your writing styles, your voices, your personalities… I’d read yall even if you blogged about dust bunnies… hahaha….

Modern Family…. oh, mercy…. Amy is SO right…. it’s sophisticated comedic writing.

    K. I’m done now… Totally worth ignoring my kids and making them wait for breakfast so I could listen to yall gab.

  14. Thank you for my morning laugh! Amy is one of my favorite bloggers and it’s so fun to hear everyone’s voice (instead of the voices in my head)!

  15. Hi darling, you girls are absolute scream!! I enjoyed the podcast, what fun you must have had making it. When I get to the office I’m going to listen again…Always nice to hear how bloggers get started and their daily lives. hugs ~lynne~

  16. Jen (Arriving) :

Loved this! Totally understand about getting tongue tied once family members start reading your blog, ack! Currently happening to me… why did I give my Mother the link again? (Don’t get me wrong, I love her – but yesterday she sent me a list of my spelling mistakes… so … yeah…). More podcasts please. Loved having it on in the background while I cruised through my morning bloglist. 20 minutes wasn’t too long at all and I loved all the giggling. :-)

  17. I listened to it all, and I was sad when it ended. Funny stuff, enjoyed it, and yeah, two megaphones would be better than one – I don’t want to miss anything Kelly says.

    ~Bliss~

  18. OH Karianne, you crack me up!! I so enjoyed this podcast… in fact I have already listened to it twice today. Yep, twice! I’m working on the “spare room” as my Mom will be here in just over 2 weeks! Okay in all honesty I am working on the “house” trying to get everything done before graduation in just over 2 weeks… 2 weeks from this Saturday!! yes I am totally freakin’ out!
Umm, yes I will admit I’ll be listening to this again… because well it really has me chuckling and its keeping me motivated today! (now I must get back to work or I’ll spend all DAY over at Amy’s blog…. (thank you so very much for introducing me to her!! I love, love, love her blog….)

    Take care now, Peggy

    thank you, THANK YOU!!

  20. So much fun! Kari, your accent is tooo cute. Love it! Mind you, whenever I am in the US, they often comment on my Canadian accent =)

  21. Love it! (tiny suggestion: microphone placement is key) (from my ancient memories of playing with a reel to reel tape recorder)

  22. Which is to say: megaphones, schmeggafones! :)

  23. Move over Rush and Howard, the Dust Bunny Ladies are taking over the airwaves …

    :)

    Linda

  24. I thoroughly enjoyed that podcast. In fact, I think it was my first! I didn’t think 20 minutes seemed too long at all. It kept me entertained and I have short-attention-span disease!
I have two cats, so I think I may be on the edge of being a hoarder…my house, garage and storage room are FULL! Not with cats, though…definitely not full of cats.
I really, really enjoyed all the newbie blogger advice! Whew! That was a relief to hear! I can’t imagine people on apartment therapy slamming your bathrooms and kitchens…I think they’re awesome!!
I hope this is a regular feature! It was great!

  25. This is awesome! I was cracking up! I hope you keep doing these! :)

  26. That was so adorable! It just makes me want to hear more! Your personalities really shine through in the podcast.
Wipe that red lipstick off the Hee-Haw megaphone and pass it o Kelly! -Or, just tell her to turn up the volume. ;-) Seriously, I loved hearing you girls! And part of the charm for me was just listening to all of you, and feeling like I was really getting a glimpse of who you are.

I was totally joking about the megaphone, Karianne! (well, not the lipstick part, since like me, I know you leave traces of it everywhere!) ;-) Don’t you dare change a thing, or start to edit the real you, Kari!!! We love you just as you are, accent and guffaws in particular! Completely charming!

How did I not know about Amy before this? I really must live under a rock! Now I have to do two things for SURE today, 1.) Go check out her blog, and 2.) I really need to record Modern Family!! I have been meaning to do this for a while now! Thanks for reminding me, Kelly!!

    Thanks for the INCREDIBLE podcast!
    much love- Lisa

  27. Funny Pod cast, thanks for sharing.

  28. So hysterical!!! I love this! It’s so fun to hear your voices and feel like we know you a little better! I love this.

  29. This is SO, SO great! A wonderful idea you had and such great content. Very interesting discussions that will keep us all coming back for more…megaphone and all. :) You really have wonderful ideas Karianne. :)

  30. KariAnne, I listened to the whole thing! First, you have such an adorable giggle! I love women who can laugh!
Finding out about Amy was so much fun. Her advice to new bloggers about “finding your voice” was such a valuable piece of wisdom!
What a great post! Please do it again!!!!

  31. YOU ARE SO CUTE!

  32. Hi KariAnne, Thanks for the introduction to Amy and her blog. You guys are so cute!

  33. This is so great…I’m not the only one living with dust bunnies! You’re brave for doing a podcast. I have a southern accent and I can’t stand the sound of my voice. It is what it is, though. I’m going to listen to this as soon as Dick VanDyke goes off.

Thanks for the sweet comments you left at my blog!

    Christa

  34. Love your giggle listen to the whole thing and you had me laughing along with you………..lol I hope you do this again…………………….I really enjoyed it

  35. This was so much fun KariAnne! You’re on to something! I usually don’t listen to or download anything, I’m sorry to say. About half way through I thought wow! This is long! But it was interesting and fun! The right length. Nice to know you came by! I loved your comment.

  36. You laughed in all the right places, and your accent is charming. Loved your podcast!

  37. Not so sure I should admit this, but when reading a blog, I imagine what the writer’s voice might sound like. I am an expressive reader, whenever I read aloud to my children I used all kinds of different voices for the characters to make things more interesting and alive to my listeners, oh and they loved it, just ask them sometime. And so, hearing your sweet, little ole southern voice on this podcast was just almost how I had imagined you would sound. Loved the podcast! Now, you must interview Gwen so if I can see if I’m right about hers. :D

  38. Adorable! It really is key to make your blog sound like, you. Not your facebook perfect you but the you that your best friend knows and your spouse fell in love with.

Thanks for the laughs and the wonderful advice.

  39. So funny! I’m listening while cooking lunch and you are entertaining the baby and me, so a huge thank you just for that!

  42. This sounds “incredible”! ;-) You guys will be awesome, I’m certain!! What a cool opportunity- I’m super stoked for you!
    xo Becca

  43. Well, that was sure fun…and Karianne, don’t you dare work on your wonderful Southern accent! I loved listening to you!
