It was almost girls gone wild at the Cracker Barrel.
It was date day and I was sitting across the table from my husband talking about this new dessert I was going to make and trying to get his opinion on navy nail polish and when did navy nail polish become so popular and why everyone is wearing it now and whatever happened to a simple nail polish that is clear or pink or red.
A super important discussion.
And right in the middle of nail talk for the year 2013….I totally noticed how cute he was.
I couldn’t help it.
His hair was kind of wavy in that perfect way and his eyes were twinkling as he tried to look remotely interested in the intense nail polish discussion and he was wearing the cutest old t-shirt with paint splatters on it from the gatehouse craft room project and he looked just like Patrick Dempsey in “Can’t Buy Me Love” when he drove around on that lawnmower.
And I stopped.
And then….maybe because I paused….or maybe he noticed how cute I was at that exact moment, too….because he reached out and took my hand……
A really cute wink.
That’s all it took.
Good thing there were two cups of very hot coffee between us.
Good thing I can resist a wavy haired t-shirt wearing Patrick Dempsey look-alike.
Good thing I walked calmly out of the restaurant holding his hand all the way.
A kiss from the cutest man this side of the Mississippi in the Cracker Barrel parking lot ….
….reason number 244 why date day is the best day of the week.
Strawberry Blueberry White Chocolate Bark
25 vanilla wafers
16 oz. white chocolate bars (I used the bars that were 4 oz. each)
1 cup sliced fresh strawberries
1/2 cup fresh blueberries
1. Line an 8 x 8 pan with foil (this makes it so much easier to lift out and cut after the chocolate has hardened).
Place vanilla wafers on the bottom of the pan.
25 should form one layer.
2. In a medium saucepan heat 12 oz. of the chocolate until melted. Stir continuously and watch carefully so the chocolate doesn’t burn. Take the remaining 4 oz. of chocolate and break into small pieces and put into a bowl.
Pour the melted chocolate over the chocolate pieces in the bowl and then stir until all pieces are melted. This ensures the chocolate melts evenly and lets it set easily when cooled.
3. Pour the melted chocolate over the vanilla wafers in the pan and spread with a spatula.
Let cool for 5 minutes and then press the sliced strawberries and blueberries into the slightly cooled chocolate.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
Makes 16 servings.
The wavy haired t-shirt wearing Patrick Dempsey look-alike hung around the kitchen until I finished making the bark.
As soon as they cooled….he ate two bars.
And then he smiled…..winked again….
….and went out to ride into the sunset on his lawnmower.
