To All the Falls I’ve Loved Before

To All the Falls I’ve Loved Before

Road to Thistlewood

This is the winding road that leads to Thistlewood….

….and this isn’t even the post I was going to write today.

I had a story and a project and when I went to post it, I sighed and stared at it and decided it wasn’t enough and wanted more.

I wanted fall.

I wanted color and texture and leaves and pumpkins and a crisp morning with the smell of fall in the air waiting for the bus with a steaming cup of coffee in my hand wearing an old gray tattered sweater and laughing at an ant joke.

So today I curated my favorite fall pictures from blogs gone past rated from 10 to 1.

Kind of like a best in show.

It’s a little random.  I know…..right?  But today I’m following my heart and if you like fall as much as I do…..

….this is the post for you.Continue reading

Have you ever had a day where your  to-do list stretches around the block?

You try and get it all done.

You try and try and try and try, but for every item that you check off, you add two more.

And somewhere… the middle of all that trying…..

….you have a brilliant idea. :)Continue reading

Control + Z and Decorating With Hydrangea

Control + Z and Decorating With Hydrangea

Decorate With Hydrangea

Do you ever use the short-cut keys on your keyboard?

You know.

The control-whatever ones that save steps and time and make you feel like you’re a computer programmer.

Like control + B that makes everything bold.

Or control + I that makes everything italic.

Or control + U that underlines everything.

Or control + C for copy and control + V for paste and control + X for cut and control + K if you want to insert a hyperlink and control + home that goes to the beginning of the document and brings you back home.

Or my favorite of all favorites……

…..control + Z.Continue reading

I taught a class at Haven on how to connect with brands.

In case you haven’t noticed, connecting with brands is big business for bloggers.

You’ve probably seen a few sponsored posts around blog land.  And you’re rolling your eyes right about now at how many there are.

And you are right.  So right.  But that’s a discussion for another day.

In my session at the conference, I talked on how to negotiate with sponsors and get sponsored posts.

You can thank me later. :)

And in my research for the class, I discovered 8 words that you should never use in a business correspondence.  I meant to share with my class to demonstrate my incredible business knowledge.  But I forgot.

I was too busy talking about lampshade parties.Continue reading

I have this theory.

It’s called the don’t-really-point-out-what-you-need-to-work-on-in-your-house-point-out-the-chandelier-instead theory.

You know.

When you invite someone over to your house and they ask for a tour and you walk them through the rooms and they are oohing and ahhing over your curtains and your pillows and the random piece of Paris art on the wall….

….and you point out the piece of crown molding you forgot to add.

And the tour comes to a screeching halt and everyone stops and stares at the gap in the crown molding that no one would ever have noticed until  you point it out.

Why do I do that?

Self….just point out the chandelier instead.

Two random thoughts on a cold, wintry December morning:

1. Have you ever listened to all the verses of It Came Upon a Midnight Clear?

2. How do you decorate your mantel for winter?

I know what you’re thinking.

These are deep, introspective thoughts that make you go hmmmm.

Not. :)Continue reading
