Painted Furniture Project and Are You Smarter Than a Seventh Grader?

HomeRight Thrift Store Project

I decided yesterday that I’m officially not smarter than a seventh grader.

Have you seen their math?

I was barely hanging on when we when through long division with decimals.  And my eyes started crossing when they said the word fraction.

But now?

Did you know that sometimes 2x x 4x can equal 8x?

But not always.  They were trying to explain to me that sometimes it can equal z.

Or maybe another random letter of the alphabet.Continue reading

The Blue Lipstick Make-Over

The Blue Lipstick Make-Over

Painted Furniture Project

Yesterday when the sun was shining and the birds were chirping and I woke up my house without stepping in dog poop…..

….I woke up my table, too.

I walked into the front room, picked up an X-Box controller off of it and turned to fluff the pillows.

And I turned back again and stared at it.

It was pretty and simple and classic and minding its own business and a couple of fruit chew wrappers.

But what if I added a little red lipstick?

Or maybe blue. :)

Painted Dresser DIY

I almost laughed when I posted this picture.

It looks so pretty and pristine.  Right?  Every detail where it should be.  Like butter would melt in its mouth.

A painted dresser that I would take out for scones and sweet tea.

But where we started?

The road to get here?  It was bumpy and rough and full of pitfalls.  To quote George Costanza, “The sea was angry that day my friends.”

So here’s the day in the life of a project that was working overtime to turn into a lemon…..

….but I snatched it from the jaws of defeat and turned it into project lemonade.Continue reading

Painted Porch Swing Project

Painted Porch Swing Project

What was I thinking?

Yesterday I posted a southern table setting and gave away dishes and asked you all what you would bring to the dinner party.

And you did not disappoint.

We were on a family trip and we started reading the dish selection aloud.  And sighed.  And read them again.

One. by. one.

In Arkansas we read about pecan pie and homemade biscuits and corn salad.  In Missouri we read about peach cobbler and homemade ice cream and ice box cake.  In Tennessee we read about macaroni and cheese and freshly picked berry pie and cheesecake with strawberries.

And in Kentucky we were hungry….

….and so we stopped for ice cream.

Thanks for sharing.  If you want to check out what everyone is bringing to the dinner party (there’s even some recipes posted) or enter the giveaway….you can check it out here.

In the meantime, read on to see how I painted my porch swing. :)Continue reading

I never knew that Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups that look like hearts talked.

Until yesterday.

I was walking through the grocery store yesterday….

….and they called out to me from the center aisle.

They told me I had enough broccoli and that I could only just eat one and it wasn’t even close to swimsuit season yet and I could always eat healthy…..

So I took a deep breath and clutched the handle of the cart and pushed past quickly and clicked my heels together and told those Reese’s….

….that tomorrow is here. :)Continue reading

Ten Minute Decorating Idea For a Farmhouse Bathroom

Ten Minute Decorating Idea For a Farmhouse Bathroom

farmhouse bathroom

A long time ago in a land far away when I first started writing this blog….

… farmhouse bathroom was featured on a really really big website.

I couldn’t believe it.

I was so excited and told anyone who would listen and called my mom and my sister-in-law and several random neighbors to tell them the news.

It was the best thing to happen since sliced bread….

….and spray-on self-tanning lotion. :)Continue reading

Five Easy Painted Projects

Five Easy Painted Projects

five easy painted projects

Yesterday my eleven-year-old daughter asked me if I had ever heard of Pinterest.

“It’s this site, “ she told me in an excited voice.

“You won’t believe it.  It  has cute hairstyles and ideas for gluing stuff onto an iPad and Fourth of July ideas for desserts and posters you can make with from candy and sayings like “You are a Lifesaver” and “Don’t Snicker….but I think You’re Great.”

And then she paused mid-sentence.

And stared.

And I could almost see the light bulb going off over her head.

“Mom,” she said with wide-open eyes.  “You could totally get some ideas off there for your blog.”

I didn’t say a word.

I just laughed inside and then smiled a smile that let her know her whole Pinterest idea was brilliant…..

….and I wish I would have thought of it first. :)

Here’s five easy painted projects I’ve created…… (and pinned, too) . :)

How to Build a Sofa Table: The Easy Way

How to Build a Sofa Table: The Easy Way

Did you wonder what I found on the 400 mile yard sale?

It wasn’t deer antlers.

I was hoping find some and paint them orange.

Maybe next time.

But I found something I wasn’t even looking for.

A sofa table.

Well… wasn’t a sofa table at first.Continue reading
