Is Fastly a Verb?

Is Fastly a Verb?

Pink Vinyl Monogram

Have you ever heard of throw-back Thursday?

You know…where everyone posts their amazingness from years ago and we all laugh and remember the good old days.

I know today is Monday.

I get it.

But I just couldn’t resist.

One of the best things about writing a blog is that you chronicle all the days and stories that went before.  Here’s one I had forgotten about that made my heart skip a beat and laugh out loud all at the same time.

Especially because the tiny teachers just asked me for mascara. :)Continue reading

The Day I Sounded Just Like My Mother

The Day I Sounded Just Like My Mother

I’m not really sure when I realized that I sounded exactly like my mother.

Not that it’s a bad thing.

Just totally unexpected.

I mean….I grew up on “there are nit picks all over your room” and “time for chewing practice” and “if you can’t say something nice….” and “watch your attitude” and my personal favorite….

….”I don’t really care what everyone else is doing.”

And my, myself and my bad attitude would sigh…and promise ourselves that when we grew up we would never talk like that or provide completely unsolicited opinions.

Until the day I got older and wiser and realized….

….how brilliant my mother was all along.

Here’s a story I wrote long ago and far away about things that a brilliant mother says….

….and the beginning of a New York Times Bestseller. :)Continue reading

How to Paint a Monogram

How to Paint a Monogram

Can we still be friends if I tell you I painted my chair?

I couldn’t help it.

Blame it on the paint brush.

This is my office at the gatehouse and this is exactly what you see when you walk in the front door and look to the left.

I love these desk chairs.

I bought them at a junk store and had them recovered and added padding and nail-head trim and gray and white striped fabric and they looked perfect….

Except they needed some red lipstick…..

….bright pink to be exact. :)Continue reading

Decorative Plate Holder

Decorative Plate Holder

I have a love/hate relationship with this bookcase.

I love it because….well….because it’s a bookcase.

And I hate it because most of the time it looks like this…..festooned with a random deer head that needs to be fixed and put into the gallery wall and extension poles that need to be added to the chandelier and left over fabric from the kitchen….

….and a random number three that needs a one, two and four.

I know….right?

The catch-all.

The stopping place.

The stomping grounds for all unfinished projects.

Until now.Continue reading

Christmas at the Gatehouse

Christmas at the Gatehouse

Disclosure: I was compensated by eBay and Style Coalition for this post. But all Collections and general opinions are 100% mine.

Did you take the tour of the gatehouse yesterday?

Color….color….wonderful color and more.

I was actually a little nervous about going so bold.  It’s a lot of color for a neutral loving girl.

But I couldn’t help myself this year….because over at the Gatehouse….

…..I let my heart do the decorating.Continue reading

Doing Absolutely Nothing….and Doing It Well

Doing Absolutely Nothing….and Doing It Well

This weekend I sat on this couch under a fuzzy black and white blanket surrounded by down pillows and watched the temperature drop and listened to the snow predictions for Tuesday….

….and did absolutely nothing.

It was the best.

Well….okay…..maybe not exactly nothing.

Does watching the entire first season of The Forsytes from PBS’s Masterpiece Theater on Netflix count in the something category?Continue reading

Craft Room Organization

Craft Room Organization

Once upon a time there was a craft room.

Don’t you just love stories that start like that….

…..and end with happily ever after?

Stories about a gate house with a tanning bed room that was rescued from a castle tower….after it let down it’s long golden hair.

A tanning bed room transformed with craft room chairs and a craft room desk and a craft room chalk board and plenty of craft room organization.

And a plethora of old tanning bed electrical outlets.

Me, too.Continue reading

How to Paint Stripes

How to Paint Stripes

painter's tape, scotchblue painter's tape, tape

I always thought I knew how to paint stripes.

I always thought that my days as a stripe painting rock star were around the corner if I just applied myself.

I also thought I could be the hula hoop champion of fourth grade….and then I lost in the final round when we were supposed to double hula hoop and then one of the hoops oddly got caught on my charm bracelet and fell to the ground….

….along with my dreams of hula hoop stardom on the Electric Company.

A hula hooping championship was out of my reach…but painting stripes….how hard could it be?

But every time I went to paint….the wall would just stare at me and I would get all intimidated and I would have visions of wiggles and bumps and completely not straight stripes.Continue reading
