Painted Porch Project

Painted Porch Project

painted porch

Once upon a time there was a porch.

(Don’t you love a story that starts like that?)

Except this porch was a scary story.  I would tell everyone to go in the front door…just so they’d miss the porch.  It was peeling and flaking and in terrible condition.

It took “distressed” to a completely new level.

And now?

Now it’s all about itself.  It’s waving people in from the driveway and throwing tail-gate parties…..

….and showing off its transformation at porch fashion week (can you tell I’ve been watching Project Runway)?

And here’s the DIY for the painted porch project.Continue reading

Pink_Flowers.jpg Just in case you were wondering…..

….this week was amazing.

I mean….there wasn’t one giant big amazing….just a lot of little amazings that all added up.

Do you ever have a week like that?

At the end of it….your heart is happy and your head is smiling and you can’t really place the one thing that made it so great….

….just a whole lot of random bits of wonderful. :)

This week…..

I found some amazing tips on how to grow these.

Decided this was the month I was going to make this from an old door.

Got a little yucked out by this (I mean….seriously).

Started planning for Fourth of July.

Never knew you could do this.

And decided I was going to make these for breakfast for Father’s Day.Continue reading

The Fabric That Calls My Name

The Fabric That Calls My Name

If you had to guess….

….what decorating question do you think I get asked the most?

Where I got my smocked burlap curtains?

How does the house stay so clean with four children, two dogs, two cats, rabbits, deer and a tortoise named Fred?

Ummmm….even closer…..but not quite.

It is…however….a great question with an easy answer……

….Photoshop. :)Continue reading

Business In the Front Party in the Back

Business In the Front Party in the Back

 12DaysCOUNTER5 (1)

Do you remember Billy Ray Cyrus?

Remember how he didn’t want us to break his heart….his achy breaky heart…..because he didn’t think it would understand.

A long time ago….he was all that and a bag of chips….

….with a mullet.

You know….the mullet…..the hairstyle with the short hair in the front and the long cascading curls in the back.

Total dual personality hairstyle…..

…..exactly like the gatehouse.

All business in the front…..

….and a party in the back. :)Continue reading

Budget Fall Decorating Ideas For the Front Door

Budget Fall Decorating Ideas For the Front Door

Don’t you love shopping the house?

And the attic.

And the barn.

And the side of the road.

They totally have the best prices.

Almost as good as Dillard’s.

Like last week when there was this amazing sale in the Dillard’s shoe department.  There was the cutest pair of yellow heels that was calling your name and even though you might not really have any yellow outfits and it is about to be fall (totally minor details)….the shoes were on sale for the best price and you decided that yellow was so going to be your color for 2014 and so you bought them and brought them home…..

…..along with four pairs of their best shoe friends.

And now you and your front door are on a budget. :)Continue reading

If You Blink…You’ll Miss the French Fries

If You Blink…You’ll Miss the French Fries

As I sat on the back porch yesterday with the breezes blowing and the sunbeams dancing across the gray floor boards…..I was counting my blessings….

One by one.

For family and friends and fall and leaves and mums and striped fabric…..

….and petrified French fries.

Please tell me you know what I’m talking about.

Please tell me you’ve seen them.

The ones that escape from the pack and then bury themselves under the floor mats and harden to a substance stronger than Superman’s arms of steel.

I have a car full of them.Continue reading

What do you write when you can’t think of anything to say about Easter table decorating?

Or just me?

You know all about tables and decorating and Easter and daffodils and moss.

You just don’t have the words.Continue reading

Spring Porch Decorating

Spring Porch Decorating

Screen In Back Porch

Yesterday it felt like spring.

I heard birds chirping and the sun was shining and a gentle breeze was blowing and I could almost hear the collective sigh of joy from the front lawn.

I think the blades of grass were hosting an open house with a limbo contest.

I know it won’t last.

I know that snow is in the forecast for Wednesday and cold temperatures are predicted for the rest of the week…..with a 90% chance of gloomy and dreary.

But for one brief shining moment…..for one sunny, breezy afternoon….I could almost smell spring.

So yesterday….I did what self-respecting person would do on an almost spring day…..

…..I took the Christmas trees down from the back porch.Continue reading
