What Does Your Front Door Say About You?

What Does Your Front Door Say About You?

What does your front door say about you?

Are you classic?

Or elegant?

Or festive?

Mine isn’t fancy.

It’s simple and uncomplicated with bunches of fresh greens and cedar trees that we cut down in the woods and silver ornaments and tiny bird’s nest and a door that needs to be painted.

Christmas Tour

But just beyond that simple front door is a home full of joy and Captain Crunch and Monopoly games and popcorn and life and laughter….

…..and welcome.

And plenty of hot chocolate with tiny marshmallows.

And this afternoon…I’m going to be trying (fingers crossed) to make these.

Now I just need to put down that magnolia…..put on my boots…..

……and walk two cow pastures over to borrow a cup of flour. :)

PS  If you want a little more front door inspiration….I’m posting all about front doors over at Lamp’s Plus Blog today.

PPS  If you want to see what is just beyond that smiling face and homemade magnolia wreath….click here to take the tour!

  1. My great aunt made those cookies when we were little…love them. I surely would lend you a cup of flour! Have a great day!

  2. Mine says; “The deer really liked the Geraniums that were planted on each side of me and I need a new wreath.. but come on in!”

  3. I just love your magnolia and cedar wreath on your front door! It is very elegant even if that was not its original intent to be so. My front door would say classic and fun. I have a traditional boxwood wreath with a very large candy cane iron piece in the center and a green, deep rose and gold harlequin bow (I know it sounds like it should be a circus themed wreath, but it actually is pretty.) I wanted to tell you that your story of your goal of making your kitchen more than a mac and cheese kitchen has inspired me to make my kitchen be more than a pb and j kitchen. I’ve let life become way too busy and let family meals go to the wayside. I want that to change that in the New year. Thanks for sharing that it can be done, one step at a time! :-) I hope that you have a wonderful last week before Christmas!

  4. My door says it’s recently been painted (late summer.) Says I bought another real life wreath, only second one I ever had. It’s saying that it’s been VERY warm and that it wants to be brown before Christmas because of the warmth, even with twice-a-day misting!

It’s saying classically done in white twinkle lit-wrapped faux holly and evergreen with red berries garland around door and down the sides.

It’s saying I found a use for that amazing white chippy basket – my 3 white poinsiettas displayed there…….saying I wish the builders would have put the electrical outlet in the corner and not smack dab in the middle wall of the front porch, so when used it looks stupid and awful and I cringe at the stupidity of builders not thinking like a designer.

It’s saying “why haven’t you purched your two tall white candles for your ridiculously tall twin lanterns yet?

It’s saying “welcome,” I hope because I host three parties within the next 6 days.

    Hugs.

    Love your smiling face, KA!

  5. Fun! Thanks for the link to my cookies Karianne, let me know how yours turn out-my hubby just ate the last of our little mice last night!

  6. Oh KariAnne! Your front door is FABULOUS! I love, love it! I need to track down some magnolia leaves next year :-) My door desperately needs to be painted too… (although I can’t tell that yours does in the photos at all!) Good luck with the mice cookies – they look adorable!!

  7. My front door says, “I can’t believe you haven’t replaced my storm door!” ;) I couldn’t get a wreath hanger on it after the wind made it all wonky – and it’s just wonky enough that a suction cup won’t work, either! I didn’t ever get any cedars on each side, but I did put some cedar limbs in a big red crock and it looks amazing! The door may not be pretty, but – it’s pretty INSIDE the door! :)

I love your magnolias!! Hope your house tour went well last night!!

  8. My front door says Welcome…and…paint me next spring! ;)

  9. My front door gives a worn, classic and understated welcome. It lies! I’m trying not to give up, yet, on getting some order and more beauty, in here. :)

  10. I am not sure how others feel about my front door but I hope it say’s: “come on in Y’all…..so happy to have you here.”
If I don’t get back here Karianne before next week, I wish you a very merry Christmas. Love and Hugs, Lynn

  11. My front door says,” HI! I am your NEW front door! I am painted black, just like you aned and now athing you put on me looks PURTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” I have a very simple wrath this year but now that we have been here awhile I have better plans for next year! On another note; wsh SO much I could come to the book signing o Friday, but will have house guests. XO, Pinky

  12. Oh boy, mine is a mix of all of the above! I have a huge greens arrangement I made at the front door we don’t use, the home made greens wreath, but also lots of coloured lights. and the other front door (the one we use) has another fresh greens wreath and an old baby sled I decorated with more greens…and beside all that are lighted candy canes. lol quite the mix.
But yours looks great! And your guest post has wonderful photos, beautiful decor.
    Debbie :)

  13. My front door says I bought my fresh Frasier fir wreath too early.

  14. What does my door say about me well I don’t think it says anything it doesn’t talk…………..lol
Ok my doors a pretty plain but this has made me think so I might do a post about my front door and see what others think.
Your door looks so pretty and inviting.

  15. Mine says “I try but fail”… seriously, you put me (and my door) to shame!

  16. Charming Karianne

  17. I love your front door Karianne – and next year I’m going to beg you to send me a box of fresh magnolia!!!

  18. Well your front door is very welcoming and pretty! Mine is very simple.A wreath and a bow.An old sled and some greens and a skate are close by.If we get some snow I will take photos. My porch needs a little white stuff to show it off a bit.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
    xx
    Anne

  19. Your front door screams “GREEN AND FRESH”

  22. I like. I like. Now, where is my cookie? Pretty please.♥

  23. Let’s see … *my* front door says that clearly I don’t like to clean because it’s filthy! Oops. Hope you had a great time with the ladies last night … I’m off to take the tour of your holiday home again. I just shared my dining room filled with snow … would love for you to come on over. Your glass of wine is waiting!

  24. My front door is definitely bad mouthing me this year …

    :)

  25. Beautiful front door KariAnne…and that person peeking from behind the door is beautiful too!!!

  26. “In yo face!” says Gwen’ s Mosque Blue front door…

    Happy Day…smile away.

  27. p.s. I’m leaving you this comment on my new kindle fire. I’ve got the door locked so no one will catch me playing with my Christmas present that should be wrapped and hidden under the Serb tree.

sometimes being bad is oh, so much fun!

  28. I love your front door, especially with you peeking out! I also love, love, love your home. It is just beautiful, calming, relaxing and just gorgoeous! I’ve been following a while and am always excited to see what new things you’ve posted! Your home is pure eye-candy!

  29. Right now my front door area is covered in snow, so what it says about me is basically dammit it’s cold out here.

    How’d the mice turn out?

    Bliss

  30. Oh my–I think I am eclectic and that wasn’t one of your choices, ha! I have a vine wreath with a St. Francis statue, a lion’s head and a cross. I know the mice cookies will be great!

  31. Well if my front door could talk {which would be creepy but make me super rich} it would say “thanks for painting me turquoise but neglecting my knobs and knockers”
Mmm, cheeky! Luckily I have an uber cheap/tacky tinsel wreath to detract from the unloved handles.

  32. Ummm. That’s a good question.
But really…I rather talk about YOUR door! And you.
What a gorgeous entryway you created….and you are a wonderful hostess…I’m pretty sure. At least your warm smile leads me to think we could become fast friends.
    Merry Christmas Kari Anne!

  33. Mine says “you most be selling something as no one uses me otherwise :-(
